Toyota Commercial Vehicles

Toyota’s Light Commercial Vehicle range includes both the Hilux and the Proace. Famed for the Hilux durability and performance their Pick-up offers everything for business and leisure activities. Established in 1937 Toyota, in 1957 they established their USA arm and then in 1992 they started production in the UK. Now a worldwide entity they continue to produce and launch new models whilst continually improving their existing models.

Off all the commercial vehicles in its class none have had so much rigorous road testing as the Hilux as over a whole series of BBC Top Gear we watched it get out through its paces to see exactly what it could cope with. Having survived the demolition of a tower block (having been placed on the top of it), being set fire to and dropped from a great height their aim was to destroy the seemingly indestructible vehicle which went on to become a feature of the studio.

Since 1968 the Hilux has gone from strength to strength and is now in its 8th generation with several facelifts along the way. It is a popular vehicle in almost every country in the world now and almost 50 years on from its debut its driving performance is as assured as it is aspirational. Available as single cab, extra cab and double cab, 4WD, manual or automatic it has a choice of either 2.5 or 3.0 litre diesel engine. It is now Europe’s best selling Pick-truck and you can only wonder if the other manufacturers were wishing they had been at the mercy of the Top Gear team. With a fuel economy of 38.7mpg (2.5 litre) or 36.7mpg (3.0 litre) and CO2 emissions of 194-227g/km it is surprisingly efficient for a 2 tonne truck.

With an off the road clearance of 217mm the drivers position is commanding and offers good visibility of the road and the feeling of being behind the wheel of a force to be reckoned with. It is both comfortable and durable. The load volume depends on the single cab, extra cab or double cab version but ranges from 1,530 litres to 983 litres. Perfect for carrying business or leisure loads. For leisure use it is a great camping vehicle and if you add the towing capacity to it you can hitch up a trailer tent, small boat or caravan and be on your way.

The other commercial offering from Toyota is the Proace, which comes in various engine sizes, wheelbases, heights, lengths, all offering a different payload capacity. It is a smooth and responsive drive and offers something for all businesses. This is a more traditional commercial vehicle but benefits from all of the experience and attention that you would expect from a Toyota with a focus on lowering emissions, improving fuel economy and making sure their vehicles are robust and safe.
